The Kinney Azalea Gardens

It is mostly a 1 shoelace terrain, bordering on 2 on some of the pathways. But certainly not too difficult, my rollator navigated every path.

This is a lifelong family garden officially started by Mr. Kinney when he retired in 1955. Developing varieties of Azaleas was actually a hobby of Mr. Kinney. He and his wife were living in the home on this property since 1927. Over the years, he and fellow friends planted over 500 varieties of Azaleas in the gardens. Dr. Sue Gordon, P.h.D, from URI worked closely with Mr. Kinney and now manages the gardens. The house remains in the care of family who reside there.
Thanx to FB, friends posts, we were introduced to these superb storybook gardens. We are still in awe of the layout, design and intricate care of this magical landscape. Explore every inch ! There are random chairs and natural log benches throughout the entire garden for relaxation and close viewing of the many varieties of Azalea surrounding you ! Take your time, no rush, don’t miss a thing. Let the adventure begin !

As you enter, pickup your pink map, you are going to need it. All of the small paths have been named and are clearly marked. The map provides some great information and history. It gives you a guide to follow and a memento to take home.

Every nook and cranny made my childlike nature jump for joy. This garden is clearly designed with love. I have never seen anything like this before and may never again. This means I must come back ! Please be kind and leave a donation in the box, no matter how big or small it is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the Kinney family for continuing your father’s love of Azaleas.
